I suspect most of us have heard of Queenstown. It is billed as the adventure capital of NZ and is a popular places for skiers to visit. It also has a reputation as a bit of a party town. So all in all, it's not a bad palce to visit.
Situated on the edge of Lake Wakatipu in Otago, Queenstown offers gorgeous scenery, fantastic activities, amazing dining experiences and some great leisure activities. And to top it all off, it's only a couple of hours flight from Auckland.
Don't plan on this for a day trip, but rather, get a group together and add this on at either the start or more likely the end of the World Masters Games. Somewhere to relax while also having some fun.
Oh, and did I mention the golf? Queenstown is the location for one of NZ's premier golf courses, Millwood. I challenge you to find a course with better scenery than Millwood, and although not an avid golfer myself, I am told by people that are, that it offers a challenge to match the scenery.
So what else can you do in Queenstown. Here's a short list of just a few of the activities that you can do in and around Queenstown: -
- Whitewater Rafting
- Jet Boating
- Canyon Swing
- Flying Fox
- Helicopter Tours
- Steamship Dinner Cruises
- Bike Ride Tours
- Winery Tours
- Fly Fishing
- Cultural Tours
And don't forget, like the Hobbiton Movie Set, Queenstown was one of the major filming locations for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so for any movie buffs, it must be on their to-do list.
